here are your twenty reasons for living sir.

(i think that will be the subtitle of this summer's zine, from diprima's nightmare #8.)

I've been having an unbearable need to listen to fiercely sad woman singers lately. Unfortunately my record collection (tel quel, and I use record to mean album) is not cooperative like that. Kaia and Melissa Ferrick and Jenn Lindsay are fabulous, but I mean I need dark country whiskey ripped worn out bluesey terribly sad woman singers. Suggestions? I've been thinking PJ Harvey, Gillian Welch (who's not that sad sounding, but still...) and um, I need suggestions. Music with a country, not-too-produced sound is preferable. But not necessary. Just sad deep soulful dark like the inside of a fruit music by women.

Leaving that category untouched for the moment.

ooh, I like Tami Hart. And PJ Harvey. But perhaps I'm looking for more of a scratchy gravelly bourbony flavor of singer, ya know?

[identity profile] bias-cut.livejournal.com 2004-07-24 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i looooooooove the new pornographers! definitely a different style of music than [livejournal.com profile] starfrosting was looking for, however.
