Adam Smith makes Karl Marx seem increasingly appealing, and I'm not even talking about their ideas--I'm talking about writing style. Plowing through this stuff in the cold library filled with retreat coffee is mildly unpleasant, to say the least. The past few days have been devoted to labor organizing and action planning (the Vassar service workers' contract has expired, they need post-retirement healthcare, etc etc) which will hopefully prove useful in the end, but is certainly high stress and energy-zapping. I haven't really done any work since Wednesday, and now I'm scrambling to make up for it.

Vassar people who read my journal:
Please come to the action meeting tomorrow, Sunday at 5 in the Gold Parlor. We will be organizing for the informational picket and sit-in on Monday.

Everyone else: I'm sorry I've been out of touch, it's been mad busy up here.

Back to Adam Smith. ::shudder:: On the plus side, once I'm done w/Wealth of Nations I get to move on to Heraclitus and some other presocratics, and then if I'm still alive I'll get to read Bordo and Merleau-Ponty for sociology. I have no idea how I'm ever gonna read North and South, this seemingly awful Victorian novel, for my Women and Class seminar. It's huge, it's boring and flowery, and there is just way too much other stuff to read.

Back I go. Hope all of you are well.
