12th on 8th
Dec. 13th, 2007 11:20 amYesterday was a listlessly quiet sort of bleak gray day, cold but not too cold. I was down on 8th ave for a doctor's appointment I ended up rescheduling. It was gray and cold and soft. I heard a little horn playing bright lines down the street, and it turned out there was a little procession for the Virgin of Guadalupe (her saint day, I suppose), a small white float with her big bright picture, a small man with a mustache and that horn and a big handful of other grown-ups and little kids, the little girls with colorful ribbons braided into their wreathes of well-brushed black hair, white dresses thick with embroidery, passing gently as a breeze down the avenue.
Nina Simone and Piano! is such a perfectly maudlin album. I think I like it better on a sunwashed spring day, though it's doing me perfectly well in the flourescent gloom of work today.
