From some random website:
TRUST ME, MOMS. Maybe I'm just an old-fashioned farm girl, but I truly believe that you're doing your boys a disservice if you allow them to keep their hair. I've been giving crew-cuts, Butches, and headshaves for over 30 years--starting with my brothers back on the farm. I know there is no better haircut a boy can have. A buzzed or shaved head is neat, clean, and cool--and looks so neat and trim. It requires zero maintenance. Just a quick wipe of the washcloth is all that's needed to keep it clean and the bottom line is it's simply more hygienic. Once your boys hair is gone, you'll never miss it and neither will they! When I'm out in public and I see boys with those straggly, shaggy mops I'm so glad my boys have their heads buzzed clean. Try this haircut! You will love it!

Now is it just me, or is there a weird fetishistic "must have neat trimmed smooth boy heads, otherwise all control will be lost and they will be floppy faggy hippie boys!" undertone to this caring mother's review of a pair of clippers? Hmmm. My favorite part is perhaps, "Just a quick wipe of the washcloth is all that's needed to keep it clean and the bottom line is it's simply more hygienic," as though HAIR were some terrifyingly unkempt and dirty thing. I mean ideally it is, but it's not *unhygienic.*

Clearly I shouldn't grow out my hair if it means I can't wash it by swiping it with a washcloth.

I feel what you're saying, but I tell you, if I had a mess of kids I'd cut their hair pretty damn short. Girls or boys. At least until they could deal with it themselves. It takes forever to comb out a kid's tangles, and it's painful for all involved.

Of course, this is coming from a hippie-raised kid who begged for years to have short hair.

Yeah hippie kids always do :)

I don't know what I'd do. I think I'd just hope I wouldn't have a mess of kids, lol. But yr right about the tangles.

Oh man, it's been so long since I've had longish hair I don't even remember tangles. ::shudders::

I mean, I remember my mom sitting down with me and my sister for at least a half hour every day to get our hair untangled. It was painful, it was messy. Bleh. Little kids with long hair can be cute, but I see it like earrings: not until they are old enough to tend to it themselves. (Unless you keep it braided or whatever all the time so its out of the way, which I have no patience for, but who knows, the other person/people in my life that that time may have different priorities.)
