this is a poem I wrote last night. it might be one of the few for which i'll actually make drafts. for now it's called "tequila," but yknow.

* * * * *
salt, suck the lime, shot
what was i trying to drown, lick salt
bite lime
it tasted kinda bitter
so i took off my shirt.
it was hot
my ribbed tank top made my shoulders feel broad
licking salt off of skin.
later i felt the spin.
what was i trying to drink, clarity
of white liquor in that clear glass
my self distilled to some black and white film, clearly
marked and made for sipping til dry
or, better yet, gone

sorta like water crusting into salt in sun
a watermark on a shoulderline of muscle.
i think maybe i was trying to drown
leaning against the bedframe, the false bravado of
my span of shoulders
my mouth slanted with juice and licked with lime.
i felt kinda sad so i took off my shirt for reassurance
but i think you’d want me better gone.
* * * * *

and so i return to typing my environmental studies paper and making my nose raw with this cold. may goddess and you guys bless me on my french final tomorrow.
