Kandinsky makes me happy. Right now I'm overwhelmed, undercaffeinated, and slightly homesick. I miss my family + my bed is unmade + I've got an autobiography of race to write and pages and pages of Baudelaire to read. I won't let myself feel bad though because I have a print of Wassily Kandinsky's "Improvisation 31 (Sea Battle)" above my desk and diet Coke and pictures Rory painted me. I've got a glamour shot of The Butchies by my bed + a picture of Judith Halberstam, and a Bob Marley poster + John Lennon postcard + Melissa Ferrick's looking hot on a magazine page. I've got framed photos, of my mama and daddy-o looking young and happy on a sailboat and me and my bro in dress-ups at our old house. We are wearing berets. It's like these pictures (Le Tigre centered above my desk, wearing primary-colored jumpsuits) are spirit guides urging me on. The bright jumpy smears of Kandinsky's paint is like singing to me, saying everything's gonna be all right...Jah guide, Jah guide...How can I be down with Burning Spear on the stereo?

Finding my socks folded together
and my sheets tucked in
makes me feel more together and less freaked out about whatever wide variety of things to be mildly anxious about abound. I don't know why this is; I mean, I remember when Jaclyn had to clean out my binder for me. Now my bed is made and I happily found two clean white socks no longer missing their match. I am tired even though it's not midnight.
