What the fuck am I gonna

There is no time to read all of whatever Derrida's written on sexual difference, and then Drucilla Cornell, and then Luce Irigaray, and then and then and then...

Clearly I should have started my thesis last year when I was in Pomo Fem.

Also I really wish I could still speak, read, and understand French. So so much. I feel awful that it's all gone. How many French classes do you reckon I can and should cram in next year?

While I'm thesising.
Shit.

You can do it. One after the other after the other. You don't have to be so comprehensive, do you? I mean you do, but there'll always be something left out which is fine. I have an interesting short Derrida speech-text that could help you feel better [or not of course].
Which is to say you can do it.

Yeah but do what? I only brought up Derrida cos it's a somewhat narrowed-down idea...haha, "Derrida" is my somewhat narrowed down idea. Speech-text always makes me feel better darling.

Yeah but do what?
figure it out. ;)

wow, i didn't even notice the title. i'm sure there is some kind of homosexual-specific thesis panic, and a corresponding support group. there should be anyway.

We can start one. With Kristy.

Are you telling me what to do? Grrl...

So should I be checking my mail for a Derrida article anytime soon?

Homosexual panic meaning you're a queer guy in panic because you don't know what to write your thesis about?

Because I'd MUCH rather see that as the meaning for homosexual panic. I vote we change it now.

I was being facetious with the title, but yes, exactly--I'm a big homo who doesn't know what to write his thesis about and is simply *panicking*! I second that motion to change it.

When you can't read all the primary texts, read the best condensed secondary literature you can, wherever it's not absolutely necessary to read the primary texts. Talk to your advisor or a research librarian and have them help you narrow it down to the most applicable material, even chapters out of larger works so long as you understand the larger work pretty well from secondary sources. Skimming is allowed, even encouraged, when you're dealing with long sections of work that aren't the most applicable. Good note-taking is essential, so they say, but I'm a slob so I did most of mine with bookmarks.

Best of luck. You can do it; I did!

I have no helpful comments 'cause you know I'm not academic. But I'm glad you have all these smart people to help you out. Hell yes to skimming. Also, with regard to note-taking, I suggest taking notes on your computer. That way you can just copy-paste quotes. Heh. But you probably know all these tricks of the trade, right? Maybe you should get a book on speed-reading?

I'm all about taking notes on the computer.
I still don't know what the hell I'm going to do my thesis on.
Clearly I should email Uma. love love.

hey kid theses kind of suck a lot, but its cool to have done it. dont worry that you dont know what you want to do yet. you have an idea and you will start doing the reading and realize something new and narrow it down and change your angle and end up writing something you probably didnt expect anyway. im sure you will see as you go that you dont need to read as much as you think because you will narrow things down along the way. also remember this is your undergrad thesis and most people dont write one at all. Think of it as a trial by ordeal. of course you want it to be amazing (and im sure it will be) but its more about the process than the product. I hope that helps (now if if i could just beleive all that maybe i wouldnt be so stressed out about my thesis).
